The most common major for my pre-med students is a BA or BS in Biology, which leaves them lots of electives free to pursue a variety of non-biology interests, or a minor or two, or a double major. Biology, Biochemistry, and other natural sciences together account for about half of my pre-med students.
The other half are scattered all over. Brain science, psychology, business, literature, engineering—truly, all over the place.
At my school, nearly all majors have enough electives to incorporate pre-med classes without much trouble. The major exception are engineering or computer science; in those cases, a fifth year is often required to pack in pre-med work. Still, plenty of students go that direction and on to success in medicine.
As to what major I’d RECOMMEND—well that’s a very personal conversation between you and your advisor. It ought to depend on what you’re good at and what fascinates you in medicine, and what manner of doctor you most hope to become.
