USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Exam) is one of the most famous exams among medical graduates of all over the world. But we all know, Every coin has two sides so USMLE has a negative side too. I'll make a list of only negativities below—
USMLE is a long time consuming exam and difficult too because of the steps it has. It at least takes 2–3 years for one to get into residency there if everything goes well from the start.
It is very costly as compared to other licensing examinations we know like PLAB. It has more number of steps, you need to have clinical experience in the US and you have to fly there for second step (step 2 CS)
There is no guarantee of getting the residency of your choice even after passing USMLE with average grades.
A good number of people strive for passing this exam so competition is on a great level.
You have to invest 2–3 years after your graduation and if you fail, it can be the reason of depression for you.
Okay let's end this negative story, after all the hurdles, if you play your cards right, you'll be the member of one of the highest paying healthcare systems in the world with best opportunities.
