Interesting question. So I will tell you the two most likely option that you have:
1) Research associate for a foreign university: You can ask your current professor incharge to recommend you to some international university. Many of PhD from IIT generally get to go out for joint projects and conferences. Depending on their performance, they get an option of getting enrolled full time.
2) For non-university job - you need to search for them depending on your expertise. For chemical reaction engineering PhD you can apply for oil & gas companies, HUL etc. I need to have more information of your background to comment more.
